Charming Roslyn maintains much of the character of its early years as a coal town, incorporated in 1889.  The Roslyn Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, and many residential and commercial buildings constructed from 1889-1930 remain intact.  Tucked into the eastern foothills of the Cascades, Roslyn also serves as a gateway to abundant year-round outdoor recreation activities.

Roslyn’s 26 historic cemeteries reflect its melting-pot heritage, with some designated for specific ethnic lines or fraternal organizations, and others with sections for specific groups.  Early families reflected more than 20 nationalities.  Learn more about the rich cultural heritage at the Roslyn Museum which continuously maintains the genealogy of its current and former residents.

In a more recent cultural phenomenon, Roslyn appeared as the fictional Cicely, Alaska in Northern Exposure, the popular television series from 1990-1995.  Most of the buildings featured in the show remain today, including the Brick Tavern – Washington’s oldest saloon - operating since 1889.
